Identifying Niche Biotech Talent – Regenerative Therapeutics

Challenge:

A new client needed a Director of Commercial Access hired quickly for their growing biotech company. It was a challenging role due to their niche (regenerative orthopedics) and the need for someone to have a background and understanding of the medical space as well as the specific types of payor relationships to get out there and get their product into more clinics. There was no medical coding in place for this brand new type of therapy, so it had never been done before and this person had to almost invent this space for them.

Approach & Solution:

We defined key areas of criteria in our mapping of the ideal candidate profile:

  • Market mapping: identifying niche profile ortho/sports medicine, with a specific network in the private payor world, who has the startup mentality to “build” this new reimbursement category
  • Soft skills: a sales mentality and storytelling capability – someone who could bring the narrative to life and have influence
  • Network: the role required and understanding of specific types of payors and demonstrated experience managing those relationships

We are experts in digging deep on profiles as well as targeting and engaging niche skillsets. Despite being a small candidate pool, and a new area of expertise for our team, the research and mapping phase was key to being able to move quickly.

Results:

  • Identified 200 profiles via regional market mapping
  • Submitted 11 qualified candidates
  • Successfully filled the role within two months including background checks
