Building a CPG Marketing, Sales and e-Commerce Team in a New Geography

Challenge:

With pending FDA approval on the horizon for a new consumer product, our client needed to build out US marketing and sales function in Boston.

They were new to market and had aggressive goals and deadlines. They were looking for expertise in consumer marketing and sales recruiting, as well as knowledge of the Boston talent Market.

A new-to-market CPG brand is exciting news, but they were up against one of the most challenging hiring markets we have seen in years.

Solution:

We did in-depth intakes with the hiring team to truly understand their mission, story and specific hiring needs. We segmented the roles in terms of must-have experience and gave recommendations on where we might need to flex. Ultimately in some roles we needed to change comp plans and needed to go fully remote to find the best candidates for the role.

We held weekly check-ins and sent bi-weekly status reports not only with results of the recruiting process, but also what we were seeing and hearing in market to optimize the search process.

Results:

To date we have made 11 placements spanning brand marketing, eComm, content, partnerships, product, retails sales and supply chain- building the team from the ground up.

The success was in the relationship built. There was on-going transparency, honest conversations that led to improving the recruitment, interview and onboarding processes. As a new employer in the Boston market we helped develop processes that supported their employer brand, leading to a more efficient and effective recruiting process.
